Creative - Honest - Unique

The connection between you and your partner must be pretty amazing, that’s why you’re getting married right?! To get the best from your wedding photography, it’s important to find a connection with your wedding photographer too.

Am I the right photographer for you?

Let’s find out...

I’m Ste, an alternative wedding photographer from Durham. I’m a bit of an open book when it comes to being me, I’ve got nothing to hide. I, like most have been through some great times and some not so great times, however they’ve always made me a better person.

Speaking of making me a better person… My wife, Faith absolutely brings out the best in me. We were married in April 2022 (originally, it was supposed to be August 2020, but the zombie apocalypse/lockdown got in the way (4 times)). We met in Durham on a night out. We’re both a little alt/different, so stood out like sore thumbs, but it also meant we gravitated towards each other. We ended up chatting and things went from there. Since then she’s been such a positive driving force behind me and my company too. In fact, Fallen Star Photography wouldn’t be what it is without her.

We have a lush dog called Kora, who’s a rescue. She’s a Boxer/Staffie cross, proper little cutie too! She really doesn’t know how big she is, I’ll be trying to edit some wedding photographs and she decides that sitting on my lap (all 3.5 stone of her) and licking my face is definitely more fun (it’s not!). We also have a corn snake called Nygma (after The Riddler as he has a ‘?’ on his head) and a Gargoyle Gecko called Pandora. I’m pleased to say, none of the reptiles want to lick my face.

My Passion

I’ve always been creative, before being a wedding photographer, I’d been a hairdresser for over 10 years. Hairdressing, while creative just didn’t give me the freedom to express myself enough, so I knew I needed a change. I was given a camera as a birthday gift and literally never put it down. It didn’t take long before the camera got an upgrade, I was taking pictures every day and trying my best to improve and get better, almost like it was a challenge.

After a little time, I knew it was the career I wanted. So, which area of photography to go into… product, corporate, venue? Then, during a hair appointment, my client mentioned their daughter was getting married and still needed to find a wedding photographer. One thing lead to another, we had a meeting and they booked me… then, the panic set in! I’d never done a wedding before! I’d not even been to many weddings before. What happens? Where do I stand for the best shots? What group shots are usually taken? HELP!

I needed some advice and guidance. I decided to head to a wedding fair (I wasn’t even getting married at the time!) and have a look around other photographers work to see what they were offering. As soon as I walked in the doors, in front of me was an amazing wedding photographer. I approached her stand (so nervous at this point) and asked if she was looking to train anyone up. She gave me her details and asked me to send over some pictures I’d taken. I did, she asked if I’d like to come along to some weddings to learn the ropes a bit. It was amazing, everyone was having fun, don’t get me wrong…. I was scared/nervous, but had a brilliant day. I’ve never looked back since.

I’ve never really had a dream job, until I became a wedding photographer, to be honest… I didn’t think they even existed! I always thought people went to work, to make money, to afford their hobbies and stuff they actually enjoyed doing. I now look forward to going to work and being around such a buzzing environment of happy people.

It might sound a little cheesy, but I kind of feel like wedding photography found me, rather than the other way around. As with most things in my life, there’s never really been a plan, everything has just found it’s way. So, thanks to everyone involved in any way for being part of an absolutely awesome journey!

So, that's a little about me, tell me a little about you…
